Volunteer FAQs

What do I need to do to start?

To begin volunteering, you must complete a background check and waiver. We also ask that you complete our Disability Inclusion Training course as soon as possible.

Is there volunteer training?

We ask that all volunteers register for a Disability Inclusion Training course. They are offered regularly throughout the year. You are welcome to start volunteering before it is completed.

What gear do I need?

The type of gear you will need to bring will depend on the adventure you'd like to volunteer for! Please reference the list of suggested additional gear in the adventure description.

Please note that for adventures like climbing or biking, you may be asked to bring items like a climbing harness or a bike, respectively. If you do not own some or all of the items on the suggested additional gear list, please reach out to us at volunteers@beyondboundariesrva.org and we will do our best to make accommodations as we are able!

What if I can't commit to a full cohort for Adventure Club or Camps?

We love having the same group of volunteers work with the same program where possible. However, if you can’t commit to an entire cohort that’s fine too, just sign up for the sessions that you can make!

What is the policy for volunteers under 18?

Due to the high adventure nature of our programs, we ask that all volunteers be at least 16 years old. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian present for the duration of the trip.

Volunteers under 18 are not required to submit a background check at this time.

All volunteers must complete a waiver.

Are photos taken at events and if so, how can I find them?

Yes! We take photos at most all of our adventures, and if you'd like to access the photos free of charge, you can find them here.
